Dating advice for men is a tricky thing – men’s egos and a common desire to rush into things on a first date are two problems that we need to overcome. How Do I Look?

You may have heard that women aren’t as interested as men are in appearance. That’s true only to the extent that they don’t disqualify everybody who doesn’t look like Brad Pitt. They do value appearance in the sense that a pulled-together, neat appearance reflects how you feel about yourself and how much you respect them. Dress nicely, in pressed and neat clothing that isn’t frayed and doesn’t look like you picked it up at the local Goodwill. If you take the time to wear stylish, coordinated clothes and get a bit dressed up, she will appreciate it. It says that you feel she’s worth the extra effort.

No, it’s not getting into bed with her; that may come later, but during the first few dates the goals are: trigger her curiosity about you so that she continues to spend time with you and make her feel special so that she knows you are a gentlemen worthy of her time. Both of these are achieved by showing interest. Ask her about her interests and activities, her goals in life, etc. A woman will enjoy sharing these with you, and it will assure her that you are interested in the whole person, not just her body. On the flip side of this coin, tell her a bit about you, but keep some things back so that she wants to keep learning more about you.

This is probably the most important dating advice for men. How you treat others is key to making a good impression. Sure, you’re going to be nice and attentive to her, but you will come into others while on your date. If you are snappy with the waiter, she’ll think you’re rude to people you perceive as “beneath you” – a definite turn-off. If you lose patience easily in traffic or make derogatory comments about people around you, she’s bound to wonder when she’ll be at the receiving end of your nasty temper.

Let Her Know Why You Are Dating Her

Let her know why you’ve been looking forward to this date. “I noticed your great sense of humor earlier, and I’m looking forward to laughing a lot tonight.” If this is a blind date, try, “Rita knows so much about you, so I know you’re a terrific person if she thinks we’ll hit it off.”

Give Her Some Room
