A Dating Tip Guide for the Internet

A dating tip guide for the Internet seemed like an essential article after I’d visited several dating websites. While at these sites, I realized that a lot of people don’t have a clue what to do. The photos and profiles were, in some cases, downright embarrassing. To help you avoid this, my online dating tip guide should give you a head start.

  1. Don’t send out those little "I’m interested" messages (sometimes called Smiles, Winks or Flirts) to every hot girl or cute guy you see. Read the profiles, for heaven’s sake! He may be a hunk, but if he mentions in his online profile he’s only looking for brunettes in a certain age range, and you’re an older blonde, it’s likely you’re wasting your time.

  3. Do send out those same messages and emails to anyone you think would be mutually attracted to you. Don’t limit yourself at first to just a few - after all, not everyone will respond. Others will respond and you’ll discover over time that you can be online friends, but nothing more. And one might be "the one."
  4. Keep it light when you first begin corresponding with someone you’ve met online. Most other online dating guides agree – baring your soul is a no-no until you know someone really well. Being honest and chatting about what you like to do, where you’d like to be in five years, etc. is fine, but telling someone your deepest darkest regret in the second email is a recipe for disaster. Don’t give someone you hardly know too much power early on.
  5. This may be the best online dating tip guide I can give you: Take the time to complete the entire profile. Sure, you’re a busy person, but if you just answer the first five questions then fill in all the blanks with the standard "I’ll tell you later" or "Ask me later," it insinuates one of three things: You aren’t taking the whole thing seriously, you’re too busy to be bothered (that doesn’t bode well for future dates), or you’re playing coy. Trust me, coy isn’t attractive.
  6. I can’t stress the importance of a quality photo enough. You may have read an online dating tips guide that says, "Posting a photo is a must," but some won’t tell you what kind of photo. It should be an attractive, well-lit head and shoulders shot. No full-length photos of you standing in front of a mountain (you’re too hard to see when the pic is mostly background). Guys, don’t pose in front of your cars! It practically screams to women that you’re in love with your toys - and most just aren’t as impressed by your cool ride as you’d think. If they want a car, they’ll buy one. Ladies, don’t pose in a bikini, lingerie or something equally seductive, then be disappointed when you’re treated like a sex object. Dress attractively and stylishly without looking like someone from the local strip club - you’ll meet much better quality men!

Print this dating tip guide, tape it up next to your computer, and go forth to try online dating! If you take these tips to heart, you’ll have a great time.
