First Date Dating Tips that Guarantee a Second One!

First date dating tips are arguably the most important ones you’ll ever get – after all, if the first date isn’t fun and memorable, you may not get a second date. Doing well on your first date can make the difference between moving on to long-term relationship and having someone not return your calls(hey, no pressure!).

Location is Everything

Just like in real estate, location is crucial to a good first date. One of my personal favorite first date dating tips is one that most men don’t pay attention to – skip that movie! If you want to get to know someone, sitting next to them for two hours in silence staring at a movie screen won’t help much.

Choose someplace where you can really talk (check out my good conversation dating tips for help with this!). A club where the music is so loud you have to shout won’t be any better than a movie theater on your first date. A casual restaurant or bistro is great – you’ll be doing something, but still have the chance to chat comfortably.

Daytime is Less Stressful

First Date Dating Tips For whatever reason, a daytime date feels less stressful. Lunch or coffee is more relaxing than dinner, and it gives you more options. If it’s going well, you can extend the afternoon; if it isn’t, you can beg off after a few hours and still have the evening free.

Have an Alternative in Mind

Want a first date dating tip you’ll hopefully never need? Have an alternative plan in case your first ones fall through! I hope you never run into a problem, but restaurants close, events get rained out and things can go awry. If you’re prepared with a great back-up suggestion, you’ll score huge points with your date. Few things are more uncomfortable than staring at each other at a complete loss thinking, “Now what the heck do we do?”

Be Crystal Clear

It isn’t spontaneous to tell a woman “Let’s just play it by ear” for the first date. It will give her fits of anxiety not knowing whether she should have on jeans and a sweater or a cocktail dress. Let her know what you’re going to be doing, where you’re going and what you’ll be wearing. If she knows you’ll be going to a great seafood restaurant and that you’re planning on wearing slacks and a polo, she can choose clothes she will be comfortable in, and you’ll both feel better knowing one of you won’t be over- or under-dressed.

Middle of the Road is Good

I’m sure you want to impress the person you’re going on a first date with, but you should impress them with you, not the place. Here’s my tip: go someplace nice, but don’t go over the top when dating her for the first time. Where will you go for special occasions down the line if you go to the best and most exclusive place on the first date? Your date may also be very ill at ease if she’s intimidated on that first date!

But don’t go to the opposite end, either. A fast food joint won’t impress, and disappointing the person you’re out with isn’t your goal. Whether it’s true or not, a cheap restaurant will send two messages – you’re tight with a buck, and you don’t think your date is worth a quality meal.

Upscale casual is my restaurant first date dating tip – keep it nice, but not fussy.

When you’re on that first date it’s important to plan ahead. If you keep these first date dating tips in mind and already have the evening planned out, you’ll do well. And hopefully, the second date will be right around the corner!
