Good Conversation Dating Tips Give You an Edge

When you ask women for advice on dating, good conversation dating tips are usually the first thing they will give you. Why? Because women feel that good conversation is one of the most important elements of a successful date. In fact, they will often judge the success of a date almost entirely on the quality of the conversation. They will ask themselves, “Did he participate fully in the conversation? Did he have interesting things to say? Was he able to express himself articulately?”

I talked to dozens of women and have come up with some key good conversation dating tips that will help you hold up your end of the conversation with confidence.

It Isn’t a Competition

It’s always tempting to “one up” the guys when one of them is telling a story. But when on a date, the last thing you want to do is give the impression you are determined to “best” the woman you’re with at everything. It sounds arrogant, and will grate on her nerves to know that you are simply trying to show you’ve done what she’s done, but faster, better or smarter.

Good Conversation Dating Tips Yes and No Aren’t Going to Last

Asking questions that can be answered with a “yes” or “no” won’t make for a very long conversation. One of the most frequently offered good conversation dating tips I got from women was, “Ask questions that need a long answer.” It keeps the talk flowing if your questions lead to a story or observation that you can respond to. Her hobbies, current events, sports (if she’s into them) and what she’s been doing lately are all good topics that can keep the conversation afloat while you learn more about each other.

Questions, Questions

If your date is telling you about her last vacation, be sure to pay attention and ask a few questions. I’m not saying you should constantly interrupt her, but a few carefully placed questions (“Did you think the food in Tuscany was a lot different than Italian food here?” “Would you go back to the same area of Florida again?”) will show that you are really interested and that you’re paying attention. It also reassures your date that she’s not just rambling – that she’s interesting and you’d like to hear more.

I Only Have Eyes for You

Good conversation dating tips aren’t just all about the talk. It’s also about how you carry on a conversation. Talking absently while your eyes are scanning the room is a guaranteed turn-off for women. You might as well be staring at the television set – the effect is the same. Making eye contact will let the person you’re with know that you are focusing on them and them only – essential to success on a first date. You don’t have to stare at her the whole night, but when she’s talking; your attention should be on her. Watching her eyes is a great way to understand her, too; the eyes are (as a grand old Queen once said) “the windows of the soul.”

No dating advice from women you ever get will leave out how to carry on an interesting conversation, so read these not once, but twice and memorize them. These good conversation dating tips, since they’re based on input from real women, will give you the edge you need.
